I just launched a new blog, Progressive Alabama, out of frustration over the Alabama legislature’s move to block the city of Birmingham from raising its minimum wage.

Progressive Alabama will be a digital project to provide resources and support to progressive activists on the ground throughout the state of Alabama and will advocate for:

  • Raising the state minimum wage to $15 per hour
  • Ensuring access to family-sustaining employment for all residents
  • An end to structural racism and racial inequity
  • Protecting the human rights of all people including immigrants, women, and the LGBT+ community
  • Promoting a people and planet-first economy
  • Creating greater autonomy for local governments
  • Electing officeholders who represent the interests of everyday people and are accountable to them
  • Increased diversity of officeholders to include more women, people of color, millennials, and the working class

I’ll be blogging their regularly on these and other issues, so be sure to check it out. You can also follow Progressive Alabama on Facebook and Twitter.
